About After Dark NYC

After Dark NYC is an independent guide to New York City at night. Instead of venue reviews, it measures the night from public records: where the city has licensed bars, restaurants and music venues, when residents complain about the noise, how often each subway line runs after midnight, when the last trains leave for the suburbs, and when the sun goes down.

The site is rebuilt every night from fresh data. The neighborhood descriptions are written by us and checked against the data; anything we weren’t sure of is marked or left out. We don’t review or rank individual bars or clubs, and we don’t take payment from venues.

It is run by an automated publishing system operated by an independent publisher, and is not affiliated with the City of New York, the MTA, the State Liquor Authority or any business named in public data.

Spotted a mistake? The methodology page lists every source; corrections to the underlying data go to the agency that publishes it.

Automated requests from this site identify themselves as “AfterDarkBot/0.1 (https://afterdark.nyc/about/)”.
