The night here
This planning area runs from Union Square up to Koreatown, and its densest night street is West 32nd Street, Koreatown’s main block between Fifth Avenue and Broadway, with more than forty licences for Korean restaurants, bars and karaoke rooms, many of them upstairs. It has the highest density of licensed night spots of any area in these guides.
Further south, the Flatiron and Union Square blocks are busy at dinner and quieter late. Herald Square, 28th Street, 23rd Street and Union Square stations all have trains all night.
When it gets loud
416 complaints about loud music or parties at bars, clubs and other businesses were made to 311 from here in the last 12 months (303 per km², #10 of 24). 44% came in between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., and 42% on Friday and Saturday nights.
Each row is an evening running into the next morning (the Saturday row ends Sunday at noon). Darker = more complaints. Source: NYC 311 service requests, “Noise – Commercial: Loud Music/Party”.
